🤍 Self-compassion break
2 min · Free · No sign-up · Meet a hard moment with kindness instead of criticism
Think of something that's hard right now. You'll take three gentle steps toward kindness.
How and why it works
The self-compassion break was developed by psychologist Kristin Neff. It has three parts: mindfulness ('this is hard'), common humanity ('I'm not alone') and kindness ('may I be kind to myself').
Research suggests self-compassion lowers stress and self-criticism, and makes it easier to bounce back from setbacks.
Questions people ask
Is self-compassion the same as self-pity?
No. Self-pity isolates you; self-compassion reminds you that everyone struggles and treats you as you'd treat a friend.
It feels awkward. Is that normal?
Very. If you're used to being hard on yourself, kindness can feel strange at first. It gets easier with practice.
Is what I type saved?
No. It stays on your screen and disappears when you leave.
